Panasonic Lumix DMC ZR1 12.1MP Digital Camera with 8x POWER Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Black)

The Panasonic Lumix DSC ZR1 is Panasonic’s attempt at giving small cameras bigger lenses. The Leica lens of this camera is something to ponder about because we all know how good Leica products are. These lenses together with 10.1 megapixels might just be what you are looking for. However, there are advantages and disadvantages in buying this camera.
This little camera is equipped with a 25mm Leica DC Vario Elmar ultra wide angle lens with 12x optical zoom. It also has the new AF tracking function which automatically locks in the focus to a subject even if it is moving. Intelligent Exposure works hard in blocking shadows and blown highlights and Intelligent Scene automatically selects which among the five preset scenes is best suited for the situation. The iA mode has a special button which activates fundamental features is needed in a good still camera. These features are the MEGA O.I.S. which prevents blurring in the event of hand shakes and the Intelligent ISO which automatically adjust the ISO setting when the subject is moving.
Panasonic Lumix DSC ZR1 is a good camera at an affordable price. If you just need it for everyday photos, it will serve its purpose. But if you are using it during a summer vacation, expect softer results. I would give this a grade of 85/100 because of its drool worthy lens.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 12.1MP Digital Camera with 8x POWER Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Black) Customer Reviews
I've experienced two issues with this camera; it doesn't containt too many language choices for on screen text, eg. I cannot select norwegian language. The second is that it doesn't allow erasure of images from the camera from within iphoto after importing images.
My opinion is still being formed, having owned this camera for nearly a month now. Pros: - Outdoor photos during the day look very good. - Extremely portable - Zoom is powerful at 8X (especially considering how small this camera is) - Doesn't cost $300 - Offers HD video resolution, with AVCHD, which means that you can shoot over 1 hour of HD video with only a 8GB SD card. - Zooms during video shooting, although the zoom moves kind of slow. Cons: - Low light photos are a disappointment (although I'm learning that for indoor shots the iA mode works pretty well) - Software to download photos could be better, requires lots of clicks to get pictures transferred, always asking confirmation buttons, "Are you sure you want to do this?" - AVCHD is hard to work with, still looking for a good video editor to make the video look good. Regular HD mode works well but takes up a lot of space on 8GB SD card (can only put 8 mins at highest quality). Panasonic has designed this camera for the world traveler in mind and guess what? I LOVE to travel! This is why their original series of cameras had the letters "TZ" in their name for "Travel Zoom". This camera has the combination of features that happens to fit for me (except for the poor low light photos). It even has a mode to input a different city and time zone so that this info is automatically stored with the picture and allows you to organize your pictures by location. There is a very handy feature that allows you to record 5 seconds of audio alongside the picture to describe what exactly is going on in the pic, very cool! This is a feature that would have come in very handy in my last trip to Bangkok. You won't find little touches like this with other cameras. Taking pictures is quick and easy with this little portable camera. Just turn it on, put it on iA mode and off you go. It has dedicated video button to start and stop the video shooting which is awkward for me, but I'm getting used to it.
I have had this camera about a month now and couldn't be happier!! It is an awesome little camera. I wanted a smaller camera to use on occasion instead of just having my big SLR to haul around. It is very easy to use and very small so it's really easy to take with you. The zoom is decent. It has alot of neat features. I love the feature where you can put in your child and/or pets name and birthday and it tags the photos of them with their name and age. You can take short movies with it. It is very easy to upload your photos to the computer. Overall, it's just a great camera! You will not be disappointed!
I was looking for a camera that would easily fit into a small purse or pocket that I could take with me when visiting, vacationing etc. I love this camera and have not even used half of the features available on it yet. The photos are great and the zoom feature is fine for my needs. Much more convenient to have a small camera instead of having to carry a larger camera and case along with a purse when I leave the house.
I only just started using the camera about a month ago, but so far I'm very pleased. First, it comes with a pouch, which is very exciting (and totally unexpected). The rotating selector switch is a bit sensitive and will move at the slightest touch. While I haven't printed any photos yet, the photo quality on the camera and on my computer is fabulous. There are lots of fun features on the camera I have yet to try, but the menu is pretty easy to work with, once you get a hang of it. The camera's not quite as compact as some of the Canon Elf ultra-compacts. It all depends on what you're looking for from a camera. But overall, I'm very happy with this camera.
